a new drawing and some illustration sketches

here is a new drawing i finished this week. the idea is about traveling and moving over seas. it's called "it seems farther than before"

i've also attached some illustrations from my sketch book. i don't know why, i just simply felt like sharing them with you. i hope you enjoy.

the captions in the illustrations are the following:
1. no caption
2. i hope you know i can never park there again
3. and if you want roses, then go buy a bouquet
4. fast
5. i need more brotein (this is an illustration of my friend abram, he enjoys working out and drinking lots of protein)
6. crawl 'til dawn on your hands and knees

art show opening

so after applying and applying and applying, i finally got into a show! i was so excited to get accepted, then on top of that, i was given an honorable mention on one of the two pieces. i went to the openings a few nights ago, along with my friends bubba, ashley and bryana. this is my friend bubba in front of the two pieces hanging on the wall, as well as the painting that got the award next to the very understated ribbon (do you sense the sarcasm?).

the show is held at Spark Gallery in denver, and the theme of the show was Guilty Pleasures. over all, i'm extremely pleased and grateful with the outcome.

new drawing

this is a new drawing i finished. i'm having lots of fun playing around with the grid. i've done a few smaller drawings similar to this one and decided to try to do something a little more finished with the idea. i'm trying to experiment with leaving parts of the grid out as well as add more to the grid to create new shapes and lines. it's been quite fun.

this particular drawing is 34" x 34" on canvas. it's acrylic and graphite, and the title is "the space between us"

i'm going to continue exploring this idea, and will certain take pictures of those when they are complete.

some new paintings

here are a couple of paintings i've been working on. the first is about containing your desires and secrets. kind of about keeping guilty pleasures i guess. the idea is that mason jars are used for conserving and saving, and often times we keep those secret things in very safe places where only we can reach or know about them. no? i don't know, that's just what i was thinking about. it is ink, oil and charcoal on canvas. i tried my hand at glazing in oil over an ink painting, which i learned i quite enjoy.

the second is just a little illustrations about a man showing up to a funeral because of the royal tenenbaums. i recently had the opportunity to be late to something because it was being played on tv. weather he's the mortician, the husband of the dead, or just a regular funeral goer is up to the viewer i guess. and who doesn't love gwyneth palrow in a fur coat? its mixed medium, but i always had when people say that because i don't know what mediums that means, so for you who are like me and actually want to know, it is ink, acrylic, watercolor and graphite on a wood panel.

a new painting

so, since i've been out of school, i've learned its hard (actually impossible) to do an intaglio print without a printmaking studio, so i've began playing around with oil paint. i find the more i work in it, the more i enjoy it. here's a new painting of mine. i also may start doing some block prints at home too, since you don't need an entire studio for that.

my new favorite picture...ever

if you weren't already aware, i do wedding announcements for my friends seth and maddy. their shop is called Ello There and their incredible invites can be found here. well, i have an invite featured there. maddy was doing surfing on the inter-web and came across a blog that included this picture. just so you're aware, i didn't do this. i mean, i designed it, but i certainly did not do this one. which means...I WAS RIPPED OFF!!!!!

i'm so excited about this. i hope this doesn't come across as sarcastic or cynical at all. i am really, truly and sincerely excited that some one copied me. that puts me up there with other graphic designers who have been copied, like saul bass, charlie harper, jason munn, or seth lucas (click on their names to see work of their that has been stolen). well, i'm not really at the same level as these four by any means, but they were copied and i was copied, so we're sort of on the same team right? i don't know, i just know that i'm really excited that someone liked my invite enough to do it themselves.

please help me.

hello everyone, i'm sorry for not posting for a very long time. i could use your help though. i was with my friends seth & maddy lucas tonight showing them around denver. we were talking about how hard it is to continue with art after graduating school, something i have certainly felt. we decided one of the best ways to keep up with creating is to work on a series, that way the series will help push your work along (that's the hope at least). so, i'm starting a new series & that's where you come in.

i did a watercolor series a little while back in which i chose a line or two from every song from the debut album for Taking Back Sunday, "Tell All Your Friends" you can see that series here to see a little clearer what i mean. well, i would like to do this again. i need your help though, as i'm not sure which album to choose next. i have five choices for you, and i need you all to decide, leave your vote as a comment, and when i've decided its done, i'll tally up the votes and which ever wins will be the base for my next series. thanks so much for your help.

the choices are as follows (in no particular order)
1. We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes - Death Cab For Cutie
2. Deja Entendu - Brand New
3. Re-Arrange Us - Mates of State
4. The Photo Album - Death Cab For Cutie
5. Four Minute Mile - The Get Up Kids
